Art is a visual medium. And when you’re teaching art for an entire classroom of students, sharing different types of artwork can be a problem. That’s why more and more art teachers are turning to the IPEVO iZiggi-HD Wireless Document Camera to present their work in glorious HD. iZiggi-HD is small and it’s wireless, meaning you can place it most anywhere, and it’s definitely not a budget breaker. Let’s take a look at some real-life examples of the doc cam in action.

Here’s Mrs. Smith’s art class in Black River Middle School. While Mrs. Smith is at her desk drawing with models, she’s using iZiggi-HD to capture every stroke. The real-time video is wirelessly streamed to her students’ iPad. And voila! Now each child can get a close-up view of the fine details. The need to hover over the teacher’s shoulder is over. And how about Mrs. Allain’s class in Schenectady, NY? Here’s what she had to say about her use of iZiggi-HD:

“We can share the same visual experience from any seat in the classroom and it has made the learning accessible to all of the students. The kids have responded so well to the use of the camera for reading stories and viewing illustrations, examining art work, and observing demonstrations while drawing, painting, and sculpting.”

Meanwhile, Mrs. Rondeau in Altoona, IA has found that iZiggi-HD can help make art lessons more accessible to students with vision limitations:

“I have several students with vision limitations that make it difficult for them to look back & forth between their work and the big screen. While still projecting the image for the whole class, I can connect iPads to the iZiggi’s WiFi and those students can see the same thing much closer to their eyes.”

Mrs. Piety in Saint Paul, MN emphasizes the way iZiggi-HD has enhanced group collaboration and activities:

“I was able to move the camera from group to group, and thus minimize the amount of distraction due to transitioning an entire group of middle school children from one part of the room to the other. The kids were able to share what they were working on as a group, garner feedback, and adjust their practices as needed. I especially loved when the kids were able to provide direction to groups in “real time.”

BONUS: Music Class! Who said all art was visual? In the case of this Fargo, ND band teacher, students’ music has been made visual by projecting musical scores. He had this to say:

“It has changed my teaching! Students now see visually what I am trying to tell them. They see it in context and it is amazing to see everyone in the band improve their own playing based on the feedback given to others.”

The free IPEVO Whiteboard app (available for iPad and now for Android) gives you the ability to annotate and emphasize your material, taking lessons and presentations to the next level. And to make sure you can take full advantage of Whiteboard’s features and tools, we’ve put together a 3-part video tutorial series. Check ’em out, and in a few minutes you’ll be able to master everything Whiteboard has to offer.

Part 1: Board Functions

This first video introduces and explains boards. Just like traditional chalkboards/whiteboards, boards are used to draw on. But you can also use them to import static images and real-time video. Cool, huh?

Part 2: Tool Options

Whiteboard’s drawing and text tools for annotation are designed to be intuitive and easy to use. This second video provides a nice and concise summary for all these tools, along with a couple handy tricks.

Part 3: Modes

Real-time video annotation, screenshot capture, and even video recording are all possible when you switch modes within Whiteboard. Our third video gives you all the info you need.

If you haven’t given IPEVO Whiteboard a try yet, or you need a little refresher, there’s never been a better time. Find out what Whiteboard can do for educators and businesspeople.

Interactive Whiteboard or iPads in Your Classroom? Why Not Both!

Educators wishing to innovate with technology in their classrooms face tough decisions, particularly when dealing with tight school budgets. For example, both the iPad and the SMART Board open up interactive learning opportunities for students. But with SMART boards being so expensive (usually many thousands of dollars), sometimes it’s an “either/or” choice between purchasing an interactive whiteboard versus purchasing several iPads. Which do you choose?

IPEVO believes you shouldn’t have to choose one over the other. You can afford all the iPads your students need and still have budget left over for an interactive whiteboard by choosing the IS-01 Interactive Whiteboard System. This inexpensive system turns most any flat surface into a whiteboard you and your students can interact with — and at only $149, it’s thousands less than a SMART board.

There are benefits to an interactive whiteboard, including effective whole-class teaching and multimedia engagement for dynamic interactions. By involving students at the board, you’re increasing their agency, their risk-taking, and their reasoning skills. You can also spark classroom debates by presenting multiple student solutions to problems (as in math). It’s also really useful and stimulating to switch between using the whiteboard as a whole-class presentation tool and then as a learning tool for students to produce their own work for the benefit of themselves and the rest of the class.

Teachers are finding that iPads can also deliver fruitful interactions in a different way. Multiple students can participate on iPads at their desk, instead of having only one or two students at the front of the room. The teacher is also free to walk around the room and engage his or her students without being “tied” to the board. And with Apple TV and a projector, multiple student iPads can be projected onto the screen and switched between for the benefit of the class. There is also an entire universe of learning apps available on iPad that might be harder (or impossible) to project and use on an interactive whiteboard.

The key takeaway here that veteran teachers know full well — and something which ed tech researchers have concluded — is that multiple approaches to learning are best. Combining technologies can motivate and excite students, and variety staves off tedium and eliminates the frustration that comes when a student doesn’t “get it” when only one teaching method is used.

By saving thousands of dollars with IPEVO’s IS-01 in place of a SMART board, educators can purchase their needed iPads plus enjoy their own interactive whiteboard, an extremely effective (and fun) presentation tool and learning tool. Basically, you can have your cake and eat it, too!

Why sacrifice one for the other when you can have both? IPEVO’s mission is to deliver affordable teaching technology so no student is left out, and that’s what you can achieve with the IS-01 Interactive Whiteboard System. Check it out and imagine the possibilities.
