How to Set Up Your Own Online Classroom in 3 Easy Steps

What is an online Classroom? At its heart, it’s a cooperation between teachers, schools and students. Online classrooms help educators and their classrooms connect with one another in a way that enriches learning for everyone – despite geographical distances, and despite traditional learning boundaries.

IPEVO_online_classroom_how-to1

In three steps, you can set up your own online classroom quickly and easily.

What you’ll need:

1. Connect your Doc Cam to the computer
This includes the Point 2 View or Ziggi-HD USB Document Cameras. Both cameras are adept at capturing fine details (like text) and capturing people like a web camera. It’s simply plug-and-play; you won’t need a device driver.

2. Connect your X1-N6 Conference Station to the computer
This provides high-quality audio to get both sides talking and listening. The X1-N6 receives and transmits clear audio in 360 degrees, meaning teachers and students can be anywhere around the Station (up to 5 meters away) and still be heard. Like the doc cam, it’s plug-and-play and you won’t need a driver.

3. Tell Skype to Use Your Devices
Start up Skype and log in. You’ll first need to tell Skype to use your IPEVO devices for audio and video.

IPEVO_online_classroom_03

FOR MAC: Click on “Skype” in the top menu, and select “Preferences.” In the window that pops up, choose “Audio/Video.” For both Microphone and Speakers, make sure to select X1-N6 from the drop-down options. Near the bottom of the same page, make sure to choose the name of your IPEVO doc camera under “Camera.” You’ll see the real-time video capture from your camera

FOR PC: Click on “Tools” in the top menu, and select “Options.” In the window that pops up, choose “Audio Settings.” For both Microphone and Speakers, make sure to select X1-N6 from the drop-down options. Next, choose “Video Settings.” If you have a webcam connected, you may need to select your IPEVO doc camera by name. Otherwise, Skype often identifies and starts using your doc cam automatically. When correctly selected, you’ll see the real-time video capture from your camera.
Finally, hit Save to save your changes.

That’s it! Connect with teachers and students by placing a call to their Skype username. You’ll transmit high-res video and high-quality audio in real time. Whether it’s delivering a webinar, conducting a cross-cultural exchange between classrooms in different countries, or holding a meeting between colleagues, you have the tools (and may we say, the talent) to host your own online classroom with Skype. Class is in session!

Have someone tap the four white squares as you adjust the Sensor Cam to align with your target surface.

2. Attach the Mount:

Twist the Sensor Cam base onto the screw on the ceiling mount until tight. Turn the star-shaped knob near the base for additional angle adjustment.

3. Remove the Sticker:

IS01_Tips.Still003

The sticker of the ceiling mount is extremely adhesive and should only be applied once. This is why we recommend you check your alignment before mounting.

Stylus? Pointer? You Don’t Have to Choose!

Filed Under (iPad in Business, All Products, APPLICATION, PRODUCT) by ipevoblog on 2012-09-06

It’s an age-old debate. Well, it’s not age-old, but it’s a debate. Stylus or pointer? A stylus gives you pinpoint control for your iPad, but a pointer gives you the length you need to share and present for students or colleagues.

Those days of fierce stylus vs. pointer battles are over with the new Telescoping Stylus. Yes, it’s a stylus and a pointer. All you have to do is provide a gentle pull, and the stylus (5.4″) telescopes out to a full pointer (15.2″). This two-in-one versatility means you now have the best of both worlds. We like to call our new product a stylus that rises to the challenge. And it can definitely rise to your challenges in the classroom or the office.

The Telescoping Stylus features a sturdy bronze construction; this isn’t one of those flimsy toothpick styluses. It weighs 21 grams and has a good, solid feel in the hand. Something else that aids precise operation is the omnidirectional rubber tip. It’s specially formulated just for touchscreens, and you’ll be pleasantly surprised at just how much more accurate (and productive) you can be with everyday operation or for presentations. This tip isn’t just a one-operation wonder, either; from gaming to drawing to typing to navigating all your apps, there’s not much you can’t do with the Telescoping Stylus.

Head on over to our Product Page to check out pictures and get one for yourself. The Telescoping Stylus is now available at a great price, and it’s sure to make teaching and presentations easier… and maybe even a little more fun.

Show ‘Em What You Can Do with Perch S

Filed Under (iPad in Business, APPLICATION, IPEVO, PRODUCT) by ipevoblog on 2012-05-24

Ever heard of a “pitch meeting” in the film industry? Say a writer or director has an idea for a film, or maybe they’ve gone as far as writing a full script. They would then pitch that story idea in person to a producer or studio executive. Essentially it’s a sales pitch, a presentation of the story concept to get people excited enough to read the script and make the movie.

And that brings us to a new idea for using IPEVO’s Perch S Desktop Stand for the new iPad 3 and iPad 2 (and there’s also a model for the original iPad). Perch S is the stand that’s just the right height for desktops and countertops. Available in black or white, Perch has a modern look and feel along with smart functionality.

Pitching has gone multimedia, and it’s often better to have some visual “eye candy” along with a verbal pitch. Perch S and the new iPad 3 (and its gorgeous retina display) provide an incredible presentation tool for a pitch. Writers can present a concept poster of their idea. And directors can show off preliminary concept art, a mock trailer, or their directing reel (the best clips from some of the films they’ve directed).

In fact, Perch S and iPad 3 make a great combination for any pitch meeting, interview, consultation, or meet-and-greet with artists and other creative people. Just consider this short list:

  • Art directors, production designers, cinematographers, lighting directors, and other image makers in theater or film can provide a multimedia portfolio or video reel with a memorable presentation.
  • Interior designers can show potential clients sample photographs of their work, color swatches, design schemes, links to furniture and accessories, and more.
  • Let’s not forget visual artists: graphic designers, illustrators, painters, storyboard artists, and similar creative folks. Why bring in a paper portfolio? Go for the gold with iPad 3’s high-resolution display.
  • Interactive media artists: web designers, video game designers and computer animators. Whether it’s still images or video, the iPad 3 and Perch will wow them.

We’ve just scratched the surface, but you get the idea. And one other note: it doesn’t matter whether your material is better in landscape or portrait orientation. Perch’s unique dual-axis hinge allows you to customize viewing angle as well as switch effortlessly between the two orientations.

What do you think, artists? And which artists did we miss in our list? Upgrade your presentation and really show ’em what you can do with the iPad 3 and Perch S Desktop Stand.

Worth Its Weight in Gold – Perch S at the Jewelry Store

Continuing our survey of worthwhile uses for the Perch, this entry takes a peek inside a popular year-round destination: the jewelry store. Jewelers, gemologists, and gemstone merchants have a fascinating and complex product, to the point that the finer points of their merchandise are sometimes a challenge to properly communicate to customers. How do you best inform customers on the ins and outs of choosing the jewelry piece that’s right for them? Our answer is Perch S.

Perch S is the smallest member of our Perch family of iPad and iPad 2 stands, and it’s the perfect size for tabletops and countertops. That would include the jewelry countertop, where an iPad can function as a prominent interactive kiosk right alongside the merchandise.

DSC_2945

As an impressive, interactive, and multimedia companion piece to traditional hands-on service, the iPad/iPad 2 and Perch S could really help deliver what jewelry store customers need to make an informed decision on their important purchase.

Here’s just a few ideas we had for what Perch S and the iPad could visually present to customers, either through website content, interactive apps, videos, or slideshows:

  • Diamond certification — what’s the difference between GIA, IGI, HRD, and EGL? Why is a certificate important? Scan an actual certificate to show customers what exactly to look for.
  • Clarity, color, carat, cut — how can customers best understand and choose between the 4 C’s of diamond evaluation? Customers could be exposed to images of different diamond cuts or a graph indicating the range of clarities, for just two examples.
  • Gemstones — beyond diamonds, what other gemstones are available? How would gemstones look paired with other gemstones?
  • Jewelry pieces — give customers an idea of what jewelry pieces work best with what gemstones through an interactive app or slideshow. How would the same diamond look in a necklace versus a bracelet, et cetera?
  • Inventory — a natural use for the Perch S and iPad is as an interactive inventory where customers can browse your full range of products, view close-ups of jewelry, and consider specifications and price.
  • Additional services — do you offer ring re-sizing? Custom engraving? Pearl restringing? Timepiece repair? Tell your customers about it with an iPad kiosk. What other uses can you think of for the Perch S iPad/iPad 2 Stand ? Let us know!

Three Sizes Fit All – Perch iPad Stands and Fashion Boutiques

Perch at DSSENT

No doubt you’re back into the swing of things after the holidays. Inspired by the retail therapy we did ourselves during the holidays — and some of the malls and boutique stores we visited — we have a great idea to share that caught our attention.

Clothing stores, iPads and IPEVO’s Perch family of stands.

Sound far-fetched? We don’t think so, especially for retailers and shop owners (particularly high-end boutique owners) looking to gain an edge over the competition and add a whole lot of “wow” to their visitors’ experience.

If you’re not familiar with Perch, Perch comes in three sizesS for tabletops, M for seated users, and L for standing users. It securely and easily holds either iPad or iPad 2 (depending on which version you select) so users can enjoy hands-free operation at the perfect height.

Perch Family

Clothing and accessories are one type of product that could really benefit from increased customer knowledge and awareness. With Perch and the iPad, you have a fully interactive information center and kiosk — as customers step into the store, at the checkout desk, outside the fitting room, or while shopping among racks or displays. What value can you add to the shopping experience with iPad and Perch? We asked ourselves that same question, and here are just a few possibilities we came up with for what customers could do:

  • Interact with a presentation/app giving them a “crash course” in determining their body type and what kinds of clothing look best on them in general
  • Get exposed to style tips, including tips to accessorize based on what accessories are available in-store
  • Take a look at the specifications, fabric type, or other distinguishing qualities of clothing and accessories they’re considering, along with price
  • Watch interviews with designers or style consultants, runway footage, or other multimedia
content that could help them make a selection
  • Discover clothing and color combinations that would work well together via an image gallery or slideshow, or via an interactive mix-and-match style app.
  • Become aware of specials, discounts, new arrivals, and other in-store promotions

And one final thought: Perch’s thin profile and light weight make it a versatile, portable addition that won’t get in the way of the real star of the show: the clothing!

School Days – The Point 2 View and Education

3

Filed Under (Document Cameras in Education, APPLICATION, All Applications, IPEVO, P2V Educators, PRODUCT) by ipevoblog on 2009-12-04

The Point 2 View USB Camera is released, and we’re receiving some great feedback from users, reviewers, and tech-minded folks from all corners of the globe. As a matter of fact, a couple of the most gratifying notes have come from educators and academia.

Educators have a lot of knowledge to share, and usually they’re sharing it with a large group of students, hence the invention of everyone’s favorite reusable writing surface, the chalkboard. More modern advances include the overhead projector as well as the digital projector. Projectors are great for multimedia presentations and large-screen demonstrations, but these pieces of equipment certainly don’t make the educational experience a cheap one. Those things are expensive!

vIn a time when everyone’s talking about the rising cost of education, enter the friendly and affordable web camera, the Point 2 View. Several educators with entrepreneurial spirits have written us about using the Point 2 View as an alternative to those super-expensive projectors. And the best part is, it’s pretty easy! The custom Point 2 View software included with the camera has a full screen mode, filling the entire computer screen, which is perfect for the large screen. Positioning the camera at just the right position and distance is a snap with the Point 2 View’s jointed stand. From there, it’s up to the 2 Megapixel camera and its super-sharp macro mode to provide the resolution and clarity necessary for small text, handwriting, or images.

From the responses we’ve received, the Point 2 View has been up to the task—and all for literally thousands of dollars less than expensive alternatives. Math educators can use the camera to demonstrate the solving of equations in real time. Engineers could display a demonstration on the big screen or show formulas or figures from a textbook. And almost everyone might find it handy to highlight a particular book passage or image detail for the benefit of the class.

I could go on, but you’ve probably had enough of an “education” for today. Suffice to say, if you’re an educator with a need for inexpensive projection, maybe you’ll consider checking out the little camera with a big vision, the Point 2 View!
